Larry William "Horn" Hornaday, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, in Guilford County, North Carolina. Born on July 14, 1942, in Guilford County, he lived a full and vibrant life of 82 years.
Larry dedicated approximately 28 years of his professional life to AMP, Inc., where he worked as a Machinist in the Tool & Die Department. His commitment to his craft and his colleagues was evident throughout his career, earning him respect and admiration from all who knew him.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry found immense joy in spending time with his son, Allen, and indulging in his passion for race cars. Whether working on them, racing at the track, or watching and attending races, Larry's enthusiasm for the sport was infectious. He also treasured the moments spent visiting his lifelong friend Jimmy Scott, and everyone else at Unique Tool and Manufacturing, where camaraderie and shared interests brought him great happiness. He also treasured his day trips with his good friend Jimmy Suggs. They would travel from west to our mountains to the east.
Larry was educated in the Guilford County Schools and held a deep faith, having accepted Christ and enjoyed spending time with Pastor Bill Davis. His spiritual journey was an important part of his life, providing him with comfort and guidance.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, William and Fannie Hornaday; his sister, Margaret Teeter; and his brothers, Ernest, Jack, Arthur, Herman, and Jimmy Bean. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Larry is survived by his devoted son, Allen Hornaday, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie, of Coleridge. He leaves behind three cherished granddaughters: Krystal Garner (Jason) of Harpers Crossroads, Heather Wells (Jamie), and Ally Hornaday Bowman (Jessy), both of Siler City. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Gracie Willard, Grayson West, and Alaina Garner, who brought him endless joy.
In addition, Larry leaves behind his loving niece, Cathie Faulkner, whom he thought of as a daughter, along with numerous other nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warmth and kindness.
Larry William Hornaday will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church located at 3228 Hines Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27405 with Pastor Bill Davis officiating.
