Larry George James, 73, of Forsyth passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Hickory Point Christian Village. A service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maroa Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois. Messages of condolence can be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Larry was born February 23, 1941 in Decatur, the son of Ross and Mary Glosser James. He married Zera L. "Vonie" Larson in 1962 and raised their family in Maroa. Larry retired from Bridgestone-Firestone after 38 years. He also worked at Lowes Garden Center for five years. Larry enjoyed cruises, mushroom hunting, dog tracks, feeding the squirrels, walking the beach, collecting sea shells and watching his grandchildren at sporting events. Larry was a member of the 1957-58 Maroa Sweet 16 basketball team. His one great love was Maroa-Forsyth football and being a member of the chain gang for over 54 years. Surviving is his wife of over 50 years: Vonie James of Forsyth, IL; sons: Terry (Cora) James of Sunny Isles Beach, FL and Rick (Leslie) James of Bristol, TN; grandchildren: Jeremy Ross (Kim) James, Jordan Richard James and Victoria "Tori" Lee James all of Bristol, TN; great grandson: Cooper Ross James; two sisters-in-law: Nancy and Faye; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Roger.
