Pat was born in Sanford, NC, the son of late 1SG and Mrs. Charlie P. and Annie E. Johnston. He graduated from Baker High School in Columbus, GA and after marrying, went on to obtain a teaching degree from Campbell College in Buies Creek, NC. Mr. Johnston married and established a home in Sanford, NC. This is where he served as an educator in the Lee County School system until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nell; infant son Larry; father and mother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. William Calvin (W.C.) and Gertrude Jones; brothers Richard Johnston, Junior Johnston, and Norbert Johnston.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his daughter Ashley (Jason) Jeffas of Wake Forest, NC; his son Charlie P. Johnston II of Sanford, NC; two grandsons Chase and Chatham Jeffas of Wake Forest, NC.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mr. Johnston was one of the best science teachers at East Lee Junior High School. He made learning fun and every student loved him. The family is in my prayers.
