Larry Benton Lambert, 73, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the Tuomey Prisma Hospital in Sumter, SC. Born July 30, 1950 in
Washington, DC, he was one of three children of the late William Brown and Amelia Samons Brown. Larry graduated from Eastern High School and attended Montgomery College, in
Washington, DC, where he studied Contract Law. He found his career path while working for Safeway Stores in 1968, until his retirement in 1999.
Larry enjoyed playing chess, and he loved cars, especially Corvettes! Larry thoroughly enjoyed customizing and racing his cars. Of all the cars he owned, he was especially fond of his customized 1966 Convertible Stingray Corvette and his 1979 T-top Corvette. Both corvettes displayed his personalized "LBL" license plate. Larry was an active member of "Vettes Underglass" Corvette Club.
Larry was a proud, yet humble man. He was the epitome of a chivalrous gentleman! Larry always had a story to share that would impart nuggets of wisdom to the listener. Woven into his stories and thought-provoking conversations were usually something that made us laugh along the way. Larry adored his family, his face would beam with joy and love at the mere mention of his family members. He was our greatest encourager and supporter. One of his greatest mentioned accomplishments was the survival of his wife's dissertation!!
Upon his retirement from Safeway Stores, Larry relocated with his mother, to her home state of South Carolina, where he lived in Sumter and cared for until her Sunset. Larry also met the woman who would become his wife, Edna Cogdell and they married on September 5, 2005. They enjoyed being partners and avid world travelers. As he would describe it, they loved chasing waterfalls, lighthouses, enjoying sunrises and sunsets together.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Amelia Brown; his sister, Betty Roundtree and nephew, Tyrone.
Larry will forever be loved and remembered by his loving partner and wife, Dr. Edna Lambert and their blended family to include: daughters Nichelle Foster, Scherida Lambert, Katherine Free, Nicole (Rev.
