Larry Macey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
Lawrence Clifford Macey, 77, died peacefully in the comfort of home on August 5, 2025 with his loving daughter by his side. Born in Glens Falls, NY on August 17, 1947, son of the late Lawrence and Lou Macey, he was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and later The College of St. Rose, Albany, NY. Larry retired from the state of New York after a 30 year career as an Investigator. During the baseball season, Larry enjoyed part time work as an usher for the Tri-City Valley Cats.

Larry was a well-liked man who always had a compliment and a smile for anyone he encountered in life. He never had anything bad to say about anyone. Family meant everything to Larry and he looked forward to family gatherings big or small. He was always a willing participant and recipient of countless practical jokes that were a mainstay of the Macey clan which he always talked about with joy and laughter. He had a true sense of adventure and every day he lived life to its fullest whether it was trying a new restaurant or brewery, going to a concert or festival, an art gallery or museum, traveling to new places, and everything in between. He was a fan of the Grateful Dead and attended over 20 shows throughout his life. He completed countless 5K races, 10K races, 2 marathons, and hundreds of miles cycling with his brother Paul. He even jumped in the icy cold waters of Lake George for over 10 years in a row at the annual New Years Day Polar Bear Plunge event. Everywhere he went, he got a book of matches, a hat, and/or a t-shirt to commemorate the activity. He will be forever missed by his family and remembered fondly by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his daughter Paula Black, brother Paul Macey, brother Bruce Macey (Carol), brother Jeff Macey (Diane), sister Kathy Nolan (Ed), and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law of 50 years, Kathie Macey (Stoddard). A private interment service will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery.
