His Story
Larry Steven Manley was born on September 25, 1958, and passed away on January 21, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He faced his illness with strength, dignity, and grace.
The Manley family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Bayhealth Hospital and the Bayhealth Cancer Center for their unwavering care and support. Special thanks to the outpatient staff who watched over Larry while he continued working there.
Larry was born in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from University City High School in 1978. He later enlisted briefly in the United States Army, serving in radio communications, and was honorably discharged following the birth of his first son. Over the years, Larry held several positions, including working as an orderly at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, a cashier with SEPTA, and as a security officer for various companies.
In 2013, Larry moved to
Harrington, Delaware, where he continued his security work at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, eventually becoming an ambassador. Larry loved his job and insisted on working rather than staying home during his illness. Those who worked alongside him will remember Larry as personable, kind, and fun to be around.
Larry was a devoted fan of Philadelphia sports, especially the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies. He also enjoyed watching professional tennis, going to the movies, bowling, and relaxing with classic television shows such as Star Trek, Lost in Space, and Law & Order. Above all, Larry cherished time spent with his family and took great joy in hosting barbecues and holiday gatherings in his home.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, John Manley Sr., his brothers, John Manley Jr. and Marvin Manley, and his grandson, Jacob Manley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katherene, of 13 years, with whom he shared 43 years together; his three sons, Steven White of Springfield, PA, LeVar Manley (Karla) of Milford, DE, and Brandon Manley of
Harrington, DE; his daughters, Shanice Manley of Wilmington, DE, and Jasmine Hyeaman (Jeffrey) of Milton, DE; his four grandchildren, Benjamin Wheeler, Arihanna Buckley, Jaiden White, and Zoe Manley; his niece, Candace Pickett; and two grandchildren by love, Sienna and Avery Palmateer.
He is also survived by his mother, Constance Rhinehardt; his sisters, Cynthia Reynolds, Valerie Johnson (Tony), Lisa Manley, Julie Caffie (Mervis), and Sandy Manley; and his brother, Bradford Manley.
Larry leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
