Larry Newell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stinemetz Funeral Home on Jul. 23, 2024.
Larry Martin "Walt" Newell, 80, a life-long resident of Damar, Kansas, entered into Eternity, July 21, 2024. Larry was born to Harvey and Docile Solange (Manny) Newell, March 30, 1944 on the family farm. He grew up with his five siblings: Myron, Glenn, Gary, Gloria and Claudia.
Several months after graduation, Larry began his military career in September of 1965 through August of 1967. Eleven months of his service was in Vietnam. During that time, Larry was ranked as a Sharp Shooter (Rifle) and earned the Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
Following his discharge, Larry worked in the oil fields and later retired as a successful residential and commercial painter.
He had a deep affection for animals, which led to a hobby of collecting model horses, which he enjoyed showing to everyone who visited.
In his free time, Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. He found solace and joy in nature and loved sharing those experiences with his friends and loved ones. A good game of cards was always a pastime he enjoyed with friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary.
Leaving to mourn his passing are his three sons: Shane (Heather) Newell, Travis (Tami) Newell, both of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Shawn Newell of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two brothers Myron (Connie) Newell of Plainville, and Glenn Newell of Ellis; two sisters: Gloria Carson of Hoisington and Claudia (Gene) Luetters of Salina.
