Larry Olgar Olson was born on February 3, 1945 to Salvind Olgar Olson and Thelma Kathleen (Spitzer) Olson in
Washington, DC. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated with a business degree from the University of Maryland at College Park. He passed away at age 78 on Sunday, August 20, 2023 in Marin County, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Sandra M. Olson, and two children, Eric O. Olson and Ashley O. Crandall. He was predeceased by one brother, Richard F. Olson.
God gifted Larry with skills, talents, and motivation from an early age to take an interest in and learn all he could about a subject mater. As a young teenager, Larry was self-taught and proficient at fixing almost anything, including appliances, lawn mowers, and cars. This young entrepreneur found a demand for his lawn mower repair services in his local neighborhood. As a hard-working young adult, he was then able to buy, repair, and sell cars, becoming a Corvette and exotic car enthusiast. It was not very long before Larry bought a small house in Maryland and began his lifelong career of real estate investing. While in DC, Larry purchased his brother's lucrative snow removal business. It was the family joke that Larry worked on average about three days a year, only when it snowed. He was gifted by God to never have a real job.
Larry and Sandy met in November of 1982 and were married four and a half months later on April 24, 1983. They enjoyed a marriage made in Heaven for 40 years. They have two children, Eric Olson, age 36, and Ashley Crandall, age 34. They have been blessed with six grandchildren, five boys and one girl. They were Larry's pride and joy!
Larry was very athletic and enjoyed playing tennis throughout his entire life. He was an avid boater, both sail and power, and loved fishing, hunting, and other water sports. His family recognized his Norwegian heritage as responsible for his need to be out on the open water. He was a very knowledgeable collector. He primarily collected ships models, nautical instruments and memorabilia, sunken treasures, antique furniture, and wild west memorabilia, including early Colt guns. Larry was the strong, silent type. He enjoyed his family more than anything, and had only a few very close friends. He raised his family on Biblical principles and honored God with his lifestyle.
His early signs of dementia began around 2013, which affected his life in so many ways. God has shown His hand during Larry's life, which Larry recognized, and God showed His mercy at the end. We are grateful to God for blessing us with Larry in our lives and know we will see him again one day. We are thankful for God's promises that we will one day see God and be with our people. "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-11 "Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people." Genesis 25:8.
