Larry Peer Obituary

Larry E. Peer, 77, of Level Green, died Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in AHN Forbes Hospital. He was born June 2, 1948, in Pitcairn, son of the late Edward and Donna Peer. He attended Gateway High School (1966) before earning a bachelor's degree from Clarion (1971) and a master's degree from Duquesne (1973). He impacted the lives of many in the Norwin community, both as a science teacher in the Norwin School District for 33 years and as a football, basketball, and track-and-field coach at Norwin, Penn Trafford, and St. Agnes Parish. He was a hard worker, always having side jobs that included teaching night school, homeschooling, working weekend events such as the U.S. Open at Oakmont and Three Rivers Stadium parking, and steam-cleaning carpets. Larry was very active in the Metro Index camps for basketball and football and was heavily involved in fundraising and organizing events for St. Agnes Parish. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Donna Peer. He is survived by his loving partner, Nellie Mae Shenefelt; sister Colleen Calcagno (Frank Calcagno); and former spouse Maurine Chadonic, with whom he had three children, Chris Peer (Elizabeth Fording), Christy Zimmerman (Tom Zimmerman), and Cody Peer (Christy Czapor). He was a proud grandfather to Cortland, Melia, Tessa, Nola, Savannah, Colton, TJ, Cayden, and Aurora; uncle to Chad, Dustin, Whitney, and the late Cori Calcagno. Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, 724-863-8900. My sincerest condolences to all who knew this WONDERFUL man! From having him for science class in 9th grade, to spending my study halls in his classroom the next 3 years helping him grade papers and do anything he needed...to finding out over the PA system on the last day of school in 2005 that he was officially retiring as a teacher! Never will I ever forget the impact this man has had on my life! Thank you to his family for sharing him! Rest Easy, Mr. Peer! I will see you again! -Forever Your "Jennie From the Block"

My condolences to the family. Mr. Peer is the reason that I am a science teacher. I try to make my chemistry classes as fun as he made my 9th grade science class. He truly made a difference.
