Larry Poole Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home - Huntsville on Dec. 16, 2025.
Larry LeGrande Poole, 89, of Huntsville, Texas passed away peacefully at his home, December 13, 2025.

Larry was born October 15, 1936, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas

Larry was proud to serve his country and was honorably discharged from his 11 years of service in the US Marines and the US Air Force, ending his service having earned the rank of Staff Sargent as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He had a variety of jobs and careers after leaving his military service including oil field roughneck, machinist, chemical plant and oil refinery operator, licensed security guard and even worked in his brother-in-law Walter Ellisor's wholesale floral company. His last employer before retiring was as an operator for Tellepsen in Houston, Texas.

Family was very important to he and Verna. They spent many a weekend visiting relatives while the cousins played together. Larry loved to fish and crab and had his own boat at one time. He took the family on many trips to the beach in Galveston, arriving before dawn in the family VW Bus. He liked to work outside, tinkered with car and home repairs and gardening. He had a small motorhome for a while and traveled with Verna to many Texas State Parks, taking Jamie and Megan along when they were young. After retiring to the farm in Schulenberg, he could be found outside riding around on his tractor, fishing in his pond, and dragging the grandkids behind the tractor on the attached trailer through the woods and to the pond to fish. He taught his children and grandchildren how to fish and share his love for the outdoors. Larry and Verna spent time in the stands watching David's football games and Sharon's band performances. When the grandkids came along, PawPaw and Nanny were back in the stands at all their activities and sporting events as well. Larry and Verna did some traveling after selling the farm and moving to Trinity. Their last big trip was to Wyoming and Yellowstone in 2016.

Larry was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of almost 65 years, Verna Lovice Sanders Poole, his parents, Hattie Mae and Denny Havens, his brother, Seth Ronald Poole, his sister Rosslyn Elaine Tucker, and numerous other beloved family members.

Larry is survived by his three children: David Poole (Lana, Jessica), Teri Faul (Glenn), Sharon Poole (Kathy). PawPaw loved his grandchildren who brought much joy to his life: including David's; Shaun, Shane, Tara (Dillon), Daniel (Nieimah), Ricky, King, and Messiah; as well as Teri's; Jamie (Frank), Megan (Chris) and Logan (Katie); And his adored great-grandchildren: Rylee, Henry, Jake, Tyler, Adeline, Layla, Kensie, and Liam.

He is also survived by honorary sister and cousin, Kay Richards and his sister-in-law, Martha Provenzano and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
