Larry R. Showman, 82 of New Concord, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, November 6, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Larry was born on March 31, 1943, in Zanesville. He is the son of the late Richard L. and Esther I. (Hutchison) Showman. Larry was a self-employed contractor with Showman Builders, then he worked for R.W. Hutchison Construction, and later with the Ohio Department of Transportation where he remained until his retirement. Larry was a proud member of the Farmer’s Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. #153 in Granville. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Larry was known as a true jack of all trades who loved tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed square-dancing and relaxing while watching TV and cheering on his sports teams. Above all, Larry treasured the time he spent with his family, who meant the world to him.
Larry is survived by his children, Bill (Laura) Gartner, Shelly (Chris) Welsh, Mary Gartner, Dale (Heather) Showman, John (Ronni) Showman, and Richard (Nicole) Showman; his sixteen grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Michael (Ann) Showman; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Morrow) Showman, who passed away on September 2, 1968; his second wife, Mary (Gleckler) Showman, who passed away on December 31, 2023; as well as his grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for donations in Larry’s honor to be made to Genesis Hospice, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701.
Visitations for Larry will be held from 2 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Farus Funeral Home of New Concord. A funeral service will take place the following day at 11 AM at the Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, 5650 Cambridge Road, New Concord, OH 43762. Pastor Tim Pollock will officiate the service.
