Our Beloved Larry W. Reeder passed from his earthly life into his heavenly life at home during the hour of mercy on Saturday, September 6, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of his wife and family.
Larry was born on January 20th 1948 in
Georgetown, Texas. He was the second son of Clyde Weldon Reeder and Ruby Lee Tucker. Larry grew up in Andice, Texas where he attended elementary and middle school before transferring to Georgetown High School, graduating in 1965. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock before marrying his high school sweetheart Shirley Ann Martinka in 1967. That same year he joined the Army National Guard and began working for IBM, from which he retired after 25 years of employment, later co-owning Georgetown Sporting Goods for several years. In September 2000, he began working for the City of Leander at Crystal Falls Golf Course in the Pro Shop, where he worked until his retirement in January 2016.
He was a longtime member of the Knights of Colombus Council #6453 and the Fourth Degree Assembly #2784. He called many bingo games and smoked many briskets for his church community at Saint Helen's. He helped deliver meals to those in need for Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Caring Place sorting food for the pantry.
Larry loved classic cars and getting his hands dirty turning wrenches in the garage on his various mechanical projects. His efforts resulted in awards at various car shows and trophies for races won at the Little River Academy racetrack. His final project was a bright green 1952 Studebaker truck he jokingly named Kermit. He was a constant fixture at the NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston, attending every year since it opened in 1988. He also enjoyed golf, photography, camping, fishing, traveling, and watching sports.
Larry lived a life of enduring faith and service. He was recognized for his significant contributions to the Central Texas Blood Bank (now We Are Blood) and Texas Alliance for Life. He started and led as Scoutmaster the Saint Helen's Catholic Church Boy Scout Troop #64. In May 2000, he traveled to Guatemala with the Kids 2 Kids Program (now Hope for Rio Dulce) to help build a school for the children of the villages along the Rio Dulce River. He was forever changed by his time there and the faces of the kids he met never failed to make him smile, even as Alzheimer's faded his memories.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ruby Reeder and infant son Christopher Alan Reeder. He is survived by his wife of 58 years and love of his life, Shirley, their four children, Jennifer (Teresa), Stephanie (Chris), Philip (Jessica), and Patrick (Jennifer), brother Clyde (Billie), ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and a large extended family.
The Family would also like to express their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff of Heavenly Care but especially to Amy Reed for her years of friendship and care.
Visitation will be held at The Gabriel's Funeral Home on Thursday September 11th at 6pm, Rosary to follow at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church on Friday September 12th at 2pm.
