Lawrence Fredrick Richardson, Jr., affectionately known as Larry "Donut" Richardson, age 81, of
Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Rainey Hospice House.
Born August 12, 1943, in his hometown of
Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Lawrence Fredrick Richardson, Sr., and Ruby Rouda Richardson.
Larry's life was a celebration of his love for people and the joy of living. His commitment to his community was unwavering. He started working as a young boy selling his father's donuts all over town. He delivered to the local radio station, where they gave him the nickname "Donut," which he is still known as today. He loved Motown, dancing, and cooking, and sometimes all three at once. He was an avid Gamecock fan, and in the fall, you would find him at Williams-Brice cheering on his beloved Gamecocks. He was a past board member of the USC Board of Visitors. He also loved playing tennis and being a member of the Cardinal Racket Club. He volunteered in local schools and helped start the Good Neighbor Cupboard, demonstrating his dedication to his community. For much of his career, Larry worked in the food service industry, owning a catering business that he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. He spent most of his later years in Highlands, North Carolina. He loved his time in Highlands, where he would sit on the porch and visit with friends at the "Creek Club" on Friday nights. When in Anderson, he would spend his Tuesday afternoons at the Uptown Lounge meeting with the "Frog Boys" for lunch. He loved life and people and loved having a good time, but he wanted you to have a better time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine Edwards Richardson; sons, Rick Richardson of
Anderson, SC, and Mark Richardson (Christina) of Blythewood, SC; and granddaughters, Caitlin, Callan, and Caroline Richardson, all of Blythewood, SC. His family was his greatest joy, and his love for them was boundless.
