Larry Rooker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Labby Memorial Funeral Home - Leesville on Sep. 28, 2024.
Larry Mitchell Rooker was born on April 12th, 1942 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He passed away at the age of 82 on September 26th, 2024 in Alexandria Louisiana surrounded by his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lillie Sue O'Brien; father, George Mitchell Rooker and his wife Irene; and brothers, Gary and Ray Rooker.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Cozette Rooker; children, Cozette Michele Hall and her husband Randy, Anne Rooker Nims and her husband Alpha, Brien Rooker and his wife Ramona (Mona); grandchildren, Alexandra, Lauren, Matt, Anthony, Ella, Joseph, Landry, Aniston, Zayden, Zoe, Addison, Abrianna, Zariah, Adora, Zackarie, Ryan, Nick, Gage, Kealee, and Blake; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Larry retired after 20 years in the Army, where he served 2 tours in Vietnam, and he served as an MP and dog handler. He obtained a Masters in Social Work from Louisiana State University. He was a die-hard LSU fan. He lovingly devoted 42 years to helping children with the DCFS. He was a member of Family Worship Center in Leesville, Louisiana.
Along with loving LSU, he loved to ride his motorcycle and run marathons. He started running at the age of 70, having ran over 15 half-marathons before his passing. He also loved to travel. His love for coffee was as strong as the coffee he liked to drink.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a hard worker, and the perfect family man. He was always fair and kind to everyone he ever knew, even strangers. You could say he's never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community. Heaven gained one of the best angels they could ask for.
Serving as pallbearers are Kevin Mock, Ray O'Bryan, Randall Bryan, Chris Portz, David Woodham, and Eloy Zayas. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Dubois, Gage Dubois, Matthew Hall, Branndon Pope, and Blake Cripps.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Family Worship Center in Leesville, with Pastor Mike Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville.
