Larry Satterlee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moles Farewell Tributes & Crematory – Greenacres on Mar. 5, 2026.
Larry Eugene Satterlee, age 83, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, February 27, 2026, peacefully in his bed at home with his family surrounding him.

Larry was born January 28th, 1943, in Bellingham, WA, to Eugene Esic Satterlee and Jeannette Lee Hayne. Larry went to high school in Bellingham and later earned an associate degree from Bellingham Technical College. He married Keven Mary Delahoyde in 1968 after returning from serving his country honorably in the Army in Germany.

Starting in 1966, Larry worked as an oiler at Georgia Pacific and completed his career there as a millwright. He and Keven lived in their first home on East Illinois during the early years of their marriage while building their beautiful house off Yew Street, where he lived for nearly 50 years. During that time, life was also busy with the addition of two rambunctious boys to the family, Travis and Zack. The home was filled with laughter and visitors and pets, Musky and Tuffy. Their home on Democrat Street hosted friends and family countless times over the years.

Larry worked at George Pacific for more than 30 years until the Mill closed in 2001. As a Millwright, he was known for his skill and work ethic. During that time, he also worked hard on the many rental properties he invested in and spent time remodeling. He spent "quality time" with his young sons, teaching them the value of hard work, while he taught them to become the capable men they would grow to be. Zack and Travis started learning the ropes of being craftsmen like their father, doing the "important" work of painting the closets of many properties as young children.

After the mill closed, he went on to earn his Associate of Autobody Repair. He and his son, Zack, built a massive shop together at the Democrat home that housed and showcased all the skills that Larry had honed, both as a millwright and a craftsman working in houses, throughout the years. Larry continued to teach his craft to his sons and advised and assisted Zack for Zack's first building project, when he remodeled a local house in Bellingham.

Larry was thrilled to welcome his 3 grandchildren, Travis' children, as they arrived, and the 3 boys also continued the legacy of being taught to be craftsmen at the house on Democrat.

Larry loved traveling with friends and family. Ross Lake was a family favorite, where friends and family gathered to camp, catch fish, and enjoy time by the fire. Later in life, Keven and Larry would travel to Arizona together, along with a large group of friends in their beloved motorhome, nicknamed ALFA – a loving family affair.

Larry was known for his quiet, dry sense of humor, which his sons inherited. He was straight and true to himself throughout his life, and he loved his family and his home. In his later years, he would watch the trees grow and the squirrels frolic from his chair as life became quieter. He commented near the end that he had "tried to stay the same throughout his life," and that he did; he remained steady and true and was loved by friends and family who continued to gather at the Yew Street home until the very end of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Jeannette Satterlee; his parents-in-law, Harrison and Irene Delahoyde; his elder brothers, Richard and James Satterlee; his niece, Lisa Satterlee; and his nephew, Brandon Delahoyde.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Keven Satterlee; sons, Travis and Zack Satterlee; daughter-in-law, Tara Satterlee; grandchildren, Tate, Dean, and Jace Satterlee; his sister, Maureen Bowers; his nieces, Michele Reed, Peggy Zollner, and Roseanne Sorensen; and his nephew, Jim Satterlee.

A memorial service to honor Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9th, 2026, at Greenacres Memorial Park Chapel, located at 5700 Northwest Ave. in Ferndale, Washington, followed by a graveside service at the same location. A Reception will follow at his beloved home on Yew Street.

Very sorry to hear of Larry´s passing. I found out about his passing and manorial too late to attend and as a fellow millwright I always miss being able to attend the last thing we can do for each other. All the good times we had as a group and those memories will last me for my remaining days. All my love and sympathies go out to all his family and friends Larry´s friend and workmate. Don Radder
