Larry Vern Seese, a cherished family man and respected member of the Mishawaka community, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, at the age of 80. He remained close to his roots, having been born in the same town on May 14, 1945, to loving parents Carl B. Seese and Alice (De Maetelaere) Seese.
Larry served his country with honor as a United States Marine, stationed in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. His time in the military shaped his strength, discipline, and deep sense of responsibility. After leaving the service, Larry found his calling in the outdoors, shaping and beautifying the landscapes of Indiana through his dedicated work as a landscaper. Over the years, he took pride in his craft, leaving a lasting mark on countless yards and gardens with his attention to detail.
Larry married his first wife, Bonnie (Lehman), on March 2, 1974, and they lived happily together until her passing on September 30, 1999. He found companionship again and married his second wife, Nancy (Baker), in August of 2009. Nancy brought warmth and companionship into Larry's later years, and their time together was marked by mutual support and quiet joy.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Nancy and his legacy flourishes through his large and loving family. His children Scott (Beth) Schmeltz, Todd (Peggy) Schmeltz, Jane (John) D'Orazio, Hal (Kim) Baker, Betsy (Cody) Griffin, Eric (Machelle) Seese, Bianca (Jim) Ash, and Amy (Tony) Seese hold dear memories of a father who taught them the value of hard work and the importance of family. His eighteen grandchildren – Sarah, Emily, Marissa, James, Matthew, Joseph, Anna, Isabella, Dominic, Kathleen, Matthew, Abbigail, Cody, Savannah, Gavin, Kennedy, Collin, and Riley – and three great-grandchildren – Samuel, Vivian, and Nora – were the pride and joy of his life, each holding a special place in Larry's heart.
His siblings, Shirley Iden, Sharon Snyder, and Edward "Eddie" Seese, preceded him in death, they are reunited once more in heaven.
A visitation for Larry will be held on, Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th, St, Mishawaka. Funeral service will take place the next day, Friday June 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in First Central Christian Church of Michiana, 2511 E 3rd St, Mishawaka.
