Larry Sego Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO on Dec. 6, 2025.
Larry Alan Sego, of Cuba, MO, was born on Saturday, May 31, 1952 in St. Louis, MO, to Kenneth Alden Sego and Angelina Sophia Sego, nee Marnati. He passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Cuba, MO, on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Larry's life was a testament to devotion-devotion to his family, his work, his land, and the simple joys that brought him peace. His story began in Steelville, where as an 8th grader he met the love of his life, Marcia Anne Fudge. What started as a young romance grew into a lifelong bond, one that would shape not only his days but his very sense of purpose. They were inseparable from the beginning, and they remained that way for the rest of his life.

A proud member of the Steelville High School Class of 1970, Larry went on to serve his country with honor with the United States Army in 1972 as a military policeman. During those years-and well beyond-he was known for his sharp-looking cars, his affection for hot rods, and his love of square-bodied trucks. If something had an engine and character, Larry appreciated it.

On August 26, 1972, Larry married his childhood sweetheart, Marcia, at the Steelville Presbyterian Church under the blessing of Rev. Likely. Their union was a true partnership, welcoming two daughters who would become the heart of the family they built.

Larry constructed their home on the family farm, a place where his values-hard work, stewardship, and respect for the land-took deep root. Alongside farming and raising cattle, he built a dedicated career as a mapping engineer for the United States Geological Survey in Rolla, Missouri, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2013. His work there reflected the same precision, patience, and pride he carried into every part of his life.

Larry embraced the outdoors with passion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, grilling for those he loved, and starting each morning by cutting wood before heading inside in time to catch The Price Is Right. And wherever Larry went, Marcia was never far behind. Their companionship was steadfast and genuine-an example to all who knew them of what lifelong love truly looks like.

Family was Larry's greatest joy. He delighted in taking the grandkids and the dogs on side-by-side rides, creating memories filled with laughter and the beauty of the farm he cherished. He was a man who lived by his commitments: a loving and devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a supportive brother, uncle, cousin, and a loyal friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth A. and Angelina Sego; parents-in-law, Leonard and Anna Mae Fudge; sister-in-law, Janet Edgar; brother-in-law, Richard Fudge; niece, Shawna Terry and nephew, Bradley Sego.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marcia Sego of Cuba, MO; daughters, Vanessa Lynn DeParle (husband, Matthew) of Cuba, MO and Sarah Suzanne Strain (husband, Tyler) of Salem, MO; brothers, Ken Sego (wife, Ruth) of Cuba, MO and Don Sego (wife, Sheila) of Sullivan, MO; sister-in-law, Lisa Evans (husband, Tim) of Grain Valley, MO; brother-in-law, Bill Edgar of Steelville, MO; 3 grandchildren, Jacob Michael DeParle, Kaelyn Angelina DeParle and Ayden Tyler Strain; great granddaughter, Gracelyn Marie Henson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Celebration of Life immediately followed at 6:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Miller officiating and full military honors. Following Larry's wishes, the family chose cremation as his final disposition. Memorials were suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Cuba Animal Shelter.
