LARRY GRANT SHRADER, 77, of Buchanan County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born on November 3, 1947, in Peterstown, West Virginia, Larry was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a man deeply rooted in his faith, family, and community.
He was the beloved son of the late James (Jim) and Mary Jane Shrader. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Shrader, and is survived by his sister, Leda Dickey. Larry graduated from Grundy Senior High School, where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a crew chief during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a successful and respected career in the mining explosives industry. Known for his hard work, integrity, and dedication, he was beloved by customers, co-workers, and employees alike.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Arline Phillips Shrader. Their 49-year marriage was a testament to love and partnership. Together they raised two children: Sonja Griffith and her husband Bill Griffith, and Dr. Shea Shrader and his wife Belinda Shrader. He was a proud grandfather to Shrader Trask (husband Brennan), Will Griffith, and Katlin Wheatley (husband Michael).
Later in life, Larry found love again with his wife, Ann Shrader, who survives him. Through Ann, Larry embraced a blended family, including her children Jeff Mullins (wife Lisa) and Elizabeth Miller (husband Michael), and step-grandchildren Haley Busch (husband Rob), Cassidy Delgado (husband Jaime), and Jacob Miller, as well as great grandsons Ford and Grant Busch.
Larry was a faithful member of Harman Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he lived it out through service, humility, and kindness. Larry will be remembered for his unwavering character, deep faith, love for his family, and his dedication to others. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at Harman Memorial Baptist Church by Dr. Shea Shrader on Monday, May 12th at 7:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 6:00 PM. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday, May 13th at 11:00 AM at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, VA.
Active Pallbearers will be: Will Griffith, Brennan Trask, Michael Wheatley, Bill Griffith, and Jacob Miller.
Honorary Pallbearers include: Jim Wayne Childress, Jim Bunn, Ed Bunn, Johnny Slone, Dr. J.P. Sutherland, Jr., Roger Wilson and the deacons of Harman Memorial Baptist Church.
