A Celebration of Christ Through the Life of Larry Shreves
Larry D. Shreves, 84, of Saint Charles, Iowa, entered the presence of his Savior on April 18, 2025.
Larry was born on March 25, 1941, in Saint Charles, Iowa, to Delmer Ransom and Edna Grace (Clarke) Shreves. He graduated from Saint Charles/I-35 Schools in 1959. On October 20, 1962, he married the love of his life, Ceceilia Laraine Ball, in Des Moines, Iowa. Together, they built a life marked by faith, generosity, and unwavering love for the Lord.
Larry worked as a machinist for John Deere for over 30 years, providing faithfully for his family. But those who knew Larry knew his true passion was serving the Lord. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Faith Baptist Bible College and spent his life in joyful obedience to the call of ministry and service. His work took him many places, including roles as maintenance director at Lake Ann Baptist Camp in Lake Ann, Michigan, and at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.
Larry had a bold, contagious faith and never hesitated to share the gospel. Whether through words or the work of his hands, he made Christ known. A gifted craftsman, Larry served as his own general contractor in building five homes for his family. He lived each day with a “glass half full” mindset and was known for his generosity, sacrificial nature, and deep concern for the needs of others above his own. His love for people was fierce, and his sense of humor and storytelling left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Above all, Larry wanted his life to magnify Christ. He would want this moment not to be about him- but about the Savior he loved, served, and trusted in life and in death.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer and Edna Shreves, and his beloved son, Troy Shreves.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ceceilia Shreves; his daughter, Kim (Scott) Leichty; daughter-in-law, Twila Shreves; grandchildren, Tyler (Jessica) Leichty, Caleb Shreves, Katlin Leichty, and Joshua (Anna) Shreves; his sister, Jackie McKinney; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
A service celebrating Christ through Larry’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Saint Charles, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Saint Charles Cemetery.
