With deep love and profound sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Larry Dean Smith, fondly known as Dean, on October 19, 2025. Born on March 2, 1938, in West Virginia, Larry Dean was an adventurous spirit who lived his 87 years with an ambitious heart and a contagious sense of humor. His laughter was a melody that will resonate in our hearts forever. Residing in Austin, Texas, he touched countless lives and was, in every sense, a pillar of strength and reliability.

Larry Dean was a proud veteran, having served in the Army for six years. His military service was a testament to his bravery and commitment to his country, qualities he embodied throughout his life. Retiring from BWXT in 2005, Larry Dean found joy in his hobbies and passions. An enthusiastic hunter, he relished the thrill of the chase. His dream was to hunt an Elk, signaling his adventurous spirit and love for the wild. As Mark Twain once said, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do." Larry Dean was never one to let life pass him by.

But what mattered most to Larry Dean was his family. His greatest joy was his son, Larry Smith II of San Antonio, Texas. The bond between them was unbreakable, forged through daily conversations and shared experiences. He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Parker, as well as his son. To every child he encountered, he was a "grandfather," and to every stranger, he quickly became a friend. His gentle way with animals and kind heart drew everyone in, painting a picture of a man beloved by his community.

Larry Dean's life was a testament to the quote, "The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more." His hard work, ambition, and love for life will remain an inspiration for all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his incredible life. We invite all who knew Larry Dean to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page, keeping his spirit alive in our hearts.
