Bennett Wyche Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. - Austin on Nov. 20, 2025.
Rev. Bennett Wyche, Sr., lovingly known as "Ben," passed away on Sunday morning, November 16, 2025, in the care of St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas, following a long battle with illness. He was born on May 19, 1953, in Quitman, Georgia, to Boysie Wyche and Willie Mae Applewhite Wyche.

He professed his love for Christ at an early age. Later in life, he joined Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as a minister. Throughout his life, Ben embraced many professions. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Specialist Fourth Class, where he was entrusted with managing and overseeing magazine rounds. He went on to work as an independent and dependent truck driver in the transportation industry, a security officer, and later with the University of Texas at Austin Bookstore until his retirement.

Ben was a man of many passions. He was an exceptional cook, a craft he learned from his mother. He enjoyed boating, fishing, playing cards, motorcycling, working on fixer-upper trucks, cars, and equipment, and spending time at social gatherings with close friends. Among his most cherished joys were the moments he spent with his grandchildren-picking them up and taking them to school, preparing after-school meals, giving them quirky yet affectionate nicknames like "Tippy Toes," "Baby A," "Baby B," "Big Grandbaby," etc.-cheering them on at sporting events and teaching them how to fish. Ben often reminisced fondly about his childhood and the special bond he shared with his large family.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Ralph Wyche, Benjamin Frank Wyche, Sam Wyche, William (Willie) Henry Wyche, Damon Wyche, and James (Skinner) Wyche; two sisters, Vera Yvonne Wyche Waters, and Bessie Garrison; his three beloved pugs: Bugsby, Rambo, and Lilly.

Ben is survived by his devoted wife, Ramona Wyche; one brother, Ronald Wyche; his son and two stepchildren, Bennett Wyche, Jr. (Joanna) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Havean Reese (Regina) of Pflugerville, Texas, and Bristol Reese of Austin, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Arayla L. Reese (Katy, Texas), Tatyana Wyche (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), Taliyah Wyche (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), Rheagan S. Reese (Pflugerville, Texas), Kaylen Wyche (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), Teilani Wyche, and Tylan Wyche (Fort Lauderdale, Florida). He also leaves behind three cherished sisters-in-law and a host of loving family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Rev. Bennett Wyche, Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering love, his giving spirit, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
