Mr. Larry Richard Sumpter, age 78, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024. He was born in Grayson, Kentucky, on January 28, 1946, to the late Coleman Sumpter and Helen (Everman) Suttles. Larry was a United States Army veteran. He served during the Vietnam Era. He retired after 30 plus years for General Electric. He also was very good with his hands. He loved woodworking, he loved turning wooden bowls, making ink pens from wood and plastic, and toys. He liked to visit the Smoky Mountains, and work in his vegetable garden. He was a devoted and loving husband for 37 years to his wife, a good father to his children, and Papaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, James Suttles; brother, James Suttles, Jr.; and sister, Ramona Carroll, sister Patricia Suttles.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Sandra Sumpter; daughter, Rejeanne (Jeanne) Duvall (Roman); son, James Sumpter (Jessica), step daughter, Melisa Cunningham (Brent); step son, Bryan Waddell (Kathy); grandchildren, Justin Burton, Jordan Burton, Brandon Cunningham, Tyler Cunningham, Kyle Cunningham, Rachel Waddell, and Aaliyah Dimitri; 3 great-grandchildren, Carter, Hadley, and Holden Cunningham; and his brother, Greg Suttles (Debbie); along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other dear family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
