Larry Terrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sullivan Funeral Home - Marshall on Feb. 14, 2026.
Larry Terrell, affectionately known as Yank, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on September 14, 1939, in Bowie, Texas, Yank was a man of integrity, warmth, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Yank is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lal Carter Terrell, and their children: Trey Terrell of Richmond, Texas and Cabe Terrell and his wife Kim of Lake Mary, Florida. He was a proud grandfather to Hunter and Haven Terrell and a delighted great-grandfather to Kaleb Terrell. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A graduate of Texas Christian University, Yank earned his bachelor's degree in education. His time at TCU was not only marked by his academic achievements but also by his notable tenure as a football player, where he was a proud Horned Frog, setting a Southwest Conference record which still stands today for the longest fumble recovery for a touchdown (98 yards). He later furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree, which he put to use as an administrator at the Achievement Center in Marshall, Texas, where he touched the lives of countless individuals. Yank's colleagues and those who worked alongside him will remember his dedication to excellence and his ability to inspire those around him.
Yank's love for TCU sports never waned, and he could often be found cheering on his alma mater's teams. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he enjoyed sharing this passion with his friends and family. Yank's favorite pastime was spending time with his loved ones. Yank's presence was always a source of joy and laughter.
Yank Terrell's legacy is one of love, service, and commitment. His impact on his family, friends, and community will be felt for generations to come. He lived a full and meaningful life, marked by the relationships he built and the lives he enriched. Yank will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Special thanks to the ladies who took such loving care of Yank for many years: Shonda Gaut, Janet Perkins, Neka Jimerson, Wanda Wilson, and Juana Foster.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:00 with funeral services at 12:00. A graveside service will be held at The Little Chapel at Algoma Cemetery following the funeral services.
Pallbearers will be: Cabe Terrell, Hunter Terrell, George Carter III, George Carter IV
Honorary pallbearers: Donnie Broadus, John Corley, Tom Wynn, Charlie Rutherford, Joe Sharp, Kenneth Haynes, Allen Staggers, and David Simpson
