Rena Sue Fry Moffatt, known affectionately to friends and family as Sue, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on January 30, 2026, in her birthplace of
Marshall, Texas. Born on February 24, 1949, Sue's journey began in Marshall, where she grew up surrounded by the love of her father and siblings. Her life was a testament to the values of love, selflessness, and kindness, which she embodied in every action and relationship.
Sue was a proud graduate of Marshall High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She devoted many years to delivering newspapers for the Marshall News Messenger and the Longview News Journal. Her work was more than a job; it was a way for her to connect with her community and serve the people within it.
As a Christian, Sue's faith was an integral part of her life. She lived her beliefs through her actions, always extending a helping hand and a warm smile to those around her.
Sue's love for the outdoors was unmistakable. She found immense joy in fishing and gardening, activities that not only brought her peace but also allowed her to appreciate the simple beauties of life. These hobbies were a reflection of her nature-patient, nurturing, and always in awe of the world's intricacies.
Her family was the cornerstone of her existence.
Sue is survived by her loving daughter, Marty Vaughn, and son-in-law, Paul Vaughn; her son, James Moffatt, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Moffatt. She was a beacon of light in the lives of her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordan, and Joshua Vaughn, Chandler Moffatt, and Kaley Moffatt, as well as her two cherished great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Mollie Futrell and husband Donnie, Ruby Connell and husband Bob, and Beverly Bennett and husband Ray, along with her brother, Mark Anderson, will hold her memory dear to their hearts.
Sue was predeceased by her son, John Mark Moffatt; her father, Roy Fry; and her brothers, Roy Lee Fry and Ronald Dan Fry, and sister, Shirley Ann Brickey.
Sue's legacy is one of enduring love and selfless service. Her kindness touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her. She left the world a better place simply by being a part of it, and her spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of her family.
