Larry Thomas, Sr. of
King of Prussia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the age of 65 on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Paoli Hospital. He was born on October 31, 1958 in
Mamou, Louisiana to the late Earl Thomas and Lorieta (Thomas) Thomas. Larry was the eighth of nine children born to this union.
Larry received his education in The Evangeline Parish School District. He was an excellent student in school and was a track star. He graduated high school with honors and received a four-year scholarship to Southern University in
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated with honors from Southern University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He later earned a master's degree from North Carolina State University in
Raleigh, North Carolina.
Larry moved to
Kokomo, Indiana and was employed by General Motors. After several years, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the years he had employment at Unisys Corporation in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania and Lockheed Martin in
King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
Larry met the love of his life, Sheila Sydnor, in 1989. They were married on October 26, 1991. From this union two children were born, Larry, Jr. and Erika Rose.
Larry had a kind and loving spirit. Everyone he met loved him. He had kind and encouraging words and concern about the welfare of others. Larry was a proud husband and father. He adored his wife and children, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. Larry was very fond of his first dog, Lucky, and later Lowkey. His dogs adored him and were always close by.
Larry accepted Christ at a young age under the leadership of Rev. Atkin Leday, Jr. at St. Peter Baptist Church in
Mamou, Louisiana. When he moved to the Philadelphia area, he joined Canaan Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was a choir member and served on the Trustee Board. He later joined Bethel AME Church in
Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, where he was a devoted member. Larry was a member of the Senior Choir and served as president until he began to suffer health issues. He was also a member of the Gospel Chorus and Male Chorus. Larry had a beautiful tenor voice and was often called on to sing solos. He single-handedly organized 100 singers from 27 churches, and sang in, the annual Handel's Messiah concert. Many people in the community looked forward to this marvelous interdenominational event held at St. Thomas of Villanova.
Larry's brother, Clinton Thomas, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn and cherish his beautiful memory, his wife, Sheila, son, Larry, Jr., daughter, Erika Rose, four sisters; Rose Mary Celestine and Ceanna Bias of
Mamou, LA, Loretta Sears of Beaumont, TX, and Lucille Thomas of Lake Charles, LA, three brothers; Cleveland Thomas (Rosie) of Beaumont TX, Adam Thomas of Lake Charles, LA, and Arthur L. Thomas of Houston TX, two brothers-in-law; Rev. Dr. Calvin H. Sydnor, III (Rev. Dr. Charlotte Sydnor), Frederick J. Sydnor, three sisters-in-law; Beth Sydnor-Lee (Shearn), Janet Sydnor, and Glenda Sydnor, and a host of adoring aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
