Larry Richard West, 79 of
Huntsville, TN transitioned to his heavenly home on March 8, 2026, peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 19, 1947, he was the son of the late Harold and Ida Bell Coffey West. He was also preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Kadon Tristin Babb, great granddaughter, Myla Rose Brewster, father and mother-in-law, Seamon and Mable Buttram Keeton; brothers, Arnold (Kathleen) West, Donald (Wanda) West; sister Francine (Greg) Wilson.
Larry was a longtime teacher and businessman. Following college graduation, he taught in the Scott County School system and the Tennessee Technology Center perspectively. He later established Scott Appalachian Industries in 1984 as the executive director until he retired. He also founded Housing Opportunities and People Enterprises (HOPE) in 1997, developed an alternative fuel station using compressed natural gas, and was very active in helping the youth develop athletic skills by coaching his children's youth teams. He aided in starting Scott County Junior Pro leagues and coached several Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams.
Most recently, he was awarded "Person of the Year" by the Independent Herald / Scott County Chamber of Commerce. He served on many state and special interest committees to improve both local and special interest policies. His desire was always to improve the lives of citizens in our community and to make things better for all. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church where he served in many roles. He was a Christian man who loved our Lord and Savior, and strived to live his life in a manner that was pleasing to God as according to His word; provider, protector and spiritual leader of his home. His favorite bible verse was 2 Corinthians 3:17: "… where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
He is survived by the love of his life, Bonnie Keeton West of 58 years. Together, their marriage was built on marital devotion, respect, faith, and commitment with a foundation of Jesus Christ. Children; Terina Cantrell, Kaprecia (Donnie) Babb, Toya (Ashley) Ellis, Bo Mandy (Chris) Yancey, Miata (Michael) Richardson; grandchildren, Taylon (Cole) West, Chevan (Heather) Brewster, Malaki (Haley) Ellis, Journey (Steadman) Rudd, Shaelee (Eli) Hembree, Sadie (Austin) West, Skye Babb, Stone Yancey, Hannah Ellis, Brody Yancey, Rygel Yancey, and Jep Yancey; and great grandchildren; Hailyn, Ellie, Emrie, Colden and Gentry West, Hudson Ellis, Adley Rudd, Iva and McCoy Hembree, Auzie and Landry West, and sister-in-law, Mary Helen West.
Special thanks when our family needed extra help, goes to Quality Hospice Care for treating us like family: his nurse, Tianne Harness, Colby Brooks, and Brenda Smith.
Larry's wishes were cremation and a private family service with his beloved family and pastor, Brother Jim West.
