Latchman Shanker, a devoted and caring husband and father, peacefully passed away from
Glioblastoma at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children, on January 23, 2024. He
was born on April 4, 1970, in Ankerville, Port Mourant, Guyana. Latchman, also known as Gav,
will be remembered for his passion for life, unwavering dedication, and kindness to his family.
Throughout his life, Latchmans cherished moments were spent with his loved ones. Family
vacations and traveling the world were among his fondest memories. Exploring new places and
experiencing different cultures brought him immeasurable joy and enriched his understanding of
the world.
Latchman graduated from Rutgers University with his Bachelor's degree in Biology and
Chemistry. He then went on to complete his MBA at Saint Peters University. He worked as a
scientist in the pharmaceutical industry.
In his free time, Latchman deeply appreciated Clint Eastwood movies, particularly 'The Good,
the Bad and the Ugly.' He would eagerly spend hours watching these films, finding inspiration in
Eastwood's iconic performances. In addition, he had a deep passion for cricket and spent a
tremendous amount of his time watching the sport with both adoration and fascination. Country
music also held a special place in Latchman's heart; the soothing melodies and heartfelt lyrics
spoke to him on a profound level.
Latchman's proudest accomplishments were being a husband and father. Alongside those
accomplishments, he had a great love for flying Cessna planes and found peace in the freedom of
the skies. His indomitable spirit took flight each time he soared above the clouds, embracing the
vast expanse of the heavens.
Latchman is survived by his beloved wife, Roshnie Shanker, who stood by his side through thick
and thin. Their love was unconditional and provided a strong foundation for their beautiful
family as they showcased to them that love has no boundaries and is everlasting. He leaves
behind three children: Emily Shanker, Sarah Shanker, and Christopher Shanker. Their upbringing
was filled with immeasurable love, happiness, guidance, and support from their extraordinary
and utterly remarkable father.
He is also mourned by his dear parents, Haripersaud Shanker (Bhai) and Chandramani Shanker
Daling). Their love shaped Latchman into the exceptional person he became. Additionally, he is
survived by his two brothers, Anand and Roshan, and his three sisters, Raywattie, Vadewattie,
and Chandra. Their unique bond allowed them to share countless memories that will forever be
cherished.
Latchman's legacy extends to his extended family, including his father-in-law, Ganpat
Sheocharran (Mina), and his mother-in-law Basmattie Sheocharran (Sabo). Also, his
sister-in-laws Ashminie, Karishma, and Nadira, alongside his brother-in-laws Rennie, Rishi
(Shepherd), Sultan (Junior), and Jeremiah. He is also remembered by family friends, the
Mangroos. Their support and presence throughout the years brought immense joy to Latchman's
life.
