Laura Louise Barnhill, affectionately known as "Weezie," "Lou," "Louise," and "Nonnie," of
New Haven, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2026. She was born on June 28, 1939, in Pitt County, North Carolina, to the late Laura B Carney Staton and Robert Barnes.
Laura attended Bethel High School in Bethel, North Carolina. After completing her education, she moved to Long Island, New York, where she began her career as a nanny and housekeeper. She later married the late Jasper Ray Barnhill, and together they lived in Plattsburgh, New York, before returning to Long Island for a short stay. The couple eventually traveled to Paris, France, and later returned to the United States, where Laura embraced her most cherished role as a devoted housewife and mother.
Laura found joy in reading, drawing, and caring for her family. She was a woman of grace, warmth, and devotion whose life was centered around love for her family and faith.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Carlos E. Barnes, Maxine) of Brooklyn, NY; Chandra K. Barnhill of Oxford, NC; and Tonya I. Barnhill of Concord, NC. Her memory will also be treasured by her sisters: Doristeen Harris, (Sylvester) of West Haven, CT; Mary Cherry and Irene Cherry, (Bonnie) of Bethel, NC; Lydia Slater of Maryland; Wanda McNair of
Greenville, NC; Shelia Staton of Monetta, SC; Ruby Lyons and Phyllis Council of West Haves, CT. She is also survived by her special sisters-in-law, Mabel Barnes of
New Haven, CT, and Rachel Barnhill Jenkins of Bethel NC.
Laura leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura Staton and Robert Barnes; and her brothers, Sharkie, Jimmie Lee, Sgt. James Staton, and Robert Joe Barnes.
Laura Louse Barnhill will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of compassion and dedication will continue to live on through all those whose lives she touched.

A Celebration of Laura's Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue at 9:30am. Viewing from 8:30am-9:30am., in Hamden Memorial Funeral Home.
