Laura Drewer, 89, of Seattle, WA, passed away on February 23, 2025.
She is survived by her children Cassandra (Jim) Buck, John (Ruth) Drewer, Laurie Drewer, Monica (Chris) Drewer-Tabacchi, and Paul (Mindy) Drewer; grandchildren BJ Buck, Nicole Garcia, Kristin (Andrew) Weaver, Nicolas (Jamie) Drewer, Jordan (Giana) Drewer, Casey Myre, Dylon (Samantha) Myre, Clementine Tabacchi, Valerie (Ben) Moore, and Matthew; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Drewer, and her son, Daniel Drewer.
Born on August 24, 1935, in Portland, Oregon, to Leander and Iona DuBell, Laura's life was marked by a deep love for her family and a commitment to education. She graduated from Seattle Pacific College in 1959 with a BA in K-12 Education, and later earned her master's degree in Education after years of supporting her husband and raising six children. She worked as an educator in elementary school and GED programs, leaving a lasting impact on her students.
Laura married William "Bill" Drewer in 1958 while attending Seattle Pacific College. Together, they served in church ministry, with Bill as a pastor in Baptist churches in Colorado and Iowa. During these early years, their family grew, and they had many adventures. In 1983, the family returned to Seattle, where Laura completed her master's degree and continued her teaching career. In 1991, Bill and Laura moved to Shelton, WA, where they built strong, supportive friendships. In 2013, they returned to Seattle, where they found a loving community in their senior housing.
Laura and Bill enjoyed traveling and took many vacations throughout their lives, often camping when their children were young. As their children grew into adults, they traveled across the country, visiting family and friends in Iowa, Illinois, Oregon, California, and other destinations.
In addition to her love of travel, Laura had many hobbies and passions. She was an avid button collector, enjoyed drawing and painting, completed puzzles, and loved writing. For many years, she wrote Christmas articles for the family, wrote regular news articles for the Bremerton Sun, and penned numerous short stories and poems. Laura also created a curriculum called "Princess in Training," which she led at Shelton First Baptist for several years.
Above all, Laura's highest priority was her family. She worked tirelessly to stay connected with her extended family, visited her children regularly, and built strong relationships with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love and dedication will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Laura's life will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025, 2:00pm at Rock of Hope Baptist Church, Edmonds, WA.
