Laura Sergeant Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 26, 2025.
Laura Katherine Sergeant of Carrollton, Texas passed away on June 18, 2025 with her family by her side. She was born on March 15, 1957 to Joseph L. and Dorothy K. Popp and was raised in Willowick, Ohio alongside her three sisters and brother.
After obtaining her certification in Nursing, Laura moved to Texas with her then-husband Rich and their son, Justin. She loved being a mother to Justin and was thrilled when her daughter Leah was born 8 years later.
After raising Justin and Leah, Laura found love again with Mark Sergeant. They were wed in 2009. Soon after, she became a Grammy to Mia and a couple years later, Enrique. Whether it was attending a school performance or going to Starbucks to grab a drink and cake pop – she treasured every moment she spent with her grandkids. They were her world.
She was also a faithful parishioner at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church for 40 years, only matched by being a nurse for over 40 years. Laura also loved caring for animals as much as she loved caring for people – she was known for rescuing any animal she saw in need, whether it was a dog, cat, or bird. She was proud to share her love of animals with her children and grandchildren.
Laura loved music. She would regularly turn the volume up on her radio while chauffeuring Justin and Leah around, entertaining them and their friends with songs from Janet Jackson, Incubus, and even Powerman 5000. She welcomed Justin and Leah's friends into her home at any point, often greeting them at the door with a cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon. She was especially close to Justin's best friend Rebecca, who she considered her second daughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy, brother Joe, sister Susan, nephew John, and mother-in-law Joan Sergeant.
Laura is survived by her husband Mark, son Justin (Garrett), daughter Leah (Oscar), grandchildren Mia and Enrique, daughter Rebecca (Enrique), grandson Gabriel, stepson Ryan, sisters Barbara (David) and Eileen, as well as several nephews and a niece. The family would like to thank those who helped to care for her recently, especially Vicky, Sahed, and Mercy. We will miss her smile and laughter forever but we are so thankful for the memories that we now carry in our hearts.
