t is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a well-lived life that we announce the passing of Laurana Ritchie of Freeport, Grand Bahama, who went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Born and raised in the heart of Freeport, Grand Bahama, Laurana was the cherished daughter of the late Cleola Pinder and Harold Russell. She was a beacon of light in her community, known for her loving and caring spirit, always putting the needs of others before her own. Laurana dedicated her life to service, impacting countless lives as a devoted schoolteacher in the Bahamas. Following her passion for education and public service, she worked for over 37 years with the federal government, leaving a legacy of integrity and diligence before retiring. A woman of deep faith, Laurana loved the Lord with all her heart and made it her mission to serve Him through her actions and devotion. Even when faced with a diagnosis of the rare, terminal disease Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in 2019, she fought hard, maintaining her faith and spirit until the very end. Laurana was predeceased by her beloved husband, who passed away in 2020, and one of her three brothers in 2021. She leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory: Four children; five grandchildren; two brothers; and a host of relatives and friends who were touched by her kindness. A service to celebrate the life and legacy of Laurana Ritchie will be held at Ebenezer AME Church on March 20th, 2026. Viewing will be held at 10:00 AM and the service will promptly begin at 11:00 AM.
