Robert Anthony "Bob" Dyer

Robert Anthony "Bob" Dyer, 79, passed away on February 21, 2026, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Bob was a loyal friend, loving husband, proud and dedicated father, doting grandfather and your favorite neighbor! Born on August 10, 1946, in Washington, D.C. to the late Evelyn and Homer Dyer, Bob was the baby of the family with one older sister, Jaclyn Hardy. Bob grew up in Silver Spring, MD, where he played local sports, was the neighborhood paperboy and was known to cause some trouble from time to time. He attended St. Bernadette's elementary school and graduated from St. John's High School in 1964. He was a solid B student, but what he lacked in the classroom, he more than made up for in charm. In 1971, Bob earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, where his love for Maryland sports began, and he became a loyal lifelong "Terp". Soon after graduation, Bob spent a short time working in the parks and recreation field before realizing his strengths were better suited for sales. He went on to build a successful 40-year career in technology sales and management. His career began at Xerox Corp. and, throughout, he worked for many of the leading technology companies, including Digital Equipment Corp, Polycom, and Tandberg. Anyone who had the pleasure of working with Bob knew he was the real deal. In 1984, while living in Washington, D.C., Bob met the love of his life, Starr Scott at a coed baby shower-of all places. It was love at first sight, and 6 months later, they were married. Bob and Starr were a team. Through all the ups and downs life brings, they stood side by side, always taking time to celebrate the wins no matter how small and supported each other through the lows. In 1987, they moved to Annapolis, where they put down roots, raised their 2 daughters, Lauren and Danielle, made lifelong friendships, and enjoyed the life they worked together to build. Bob was an avid runner, an enthusiastic golfer, a part-time handyman, a mediocre but passionate boat captain, lovingly referred to as "Captain Bob", and a huge fan of all MD/D.C. sports teams. He was an MD football season ticket holder where many games were attended, tailgates were enjoyed, wins were celebrated, and losses were soothed with a bourbon and Coke on ice. But above all else, being Dad to his girls was by far the greatest honor of his life. He was the ultimate girl dad, always up for shopping sprees, tagging along for mani/pedi appointments, and even building his girls the Barbie playhouse of their dreams. He was their biggest cheerleader, fiercest protector, a constant source of laughter, encouragement, and strength. There was nothing more important to him than his family. That love only grew when he became a grandfather to Tate, Banks and Georgia. He became their "Pop-Pop" instantly. He was at their baseball games, ballet recitals, helping them with homework, but his favorite place was Sunday mornings spent snuggled next to his grandkids, each reading a portion of the local newspaper. In 2013, Bob was diagnosed with a rare form of carcinoid cancer. While cancer became part of his story, it never defined how he lived his life. Through every challenge, he continued to show up for the people he loved most, facing his illness with remarkable strength and the kind of stubborn determination that everyone who knew him recognized. To different people, he was Bob, Bobby, Bobby D, Mr. Bob, Pop-Pop, or Dad. No matter what you called him, you feel grateful to have known him, better because of him, and lucky to have had him in your life. So, share your stories, hold tight to the memories, laugh about the good times, and carry a piece of him with you always. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
