Verna C. Thayer of Edgewater passed away on March 2, 2026. She was 89 years old. Verna was born in Framingham, Massachusetts on July 1, 1936 to Lewis Alanson Clark and Eva Constance Clark. She spent the earlier part of her life in Lexington, Massachusetts before moving to the Wildewood community of California, Maryland. She then spent the final years of her life residing at Brightview Assisted Living in Edgewater, Maryland. She worked as a nurse for many years, but developed a true passion for teaching nursing. She received her Masters degree in Nursing from Boston University and went on to work for Quincy Vocational Tech. She was an active member of the Peter Bent Brigham of Nursing (PBBSON) Alumni Association. Verna could often be seen wearing one of her many beautiful hats. She enjoyed helping others, volunteering at blood drives, Meals on Wheels, and teaching CPR. Along with her parents, Verna is predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Charles W. Thayer, her son, Scott Thayer, brother, David Clark, and sisters, Helen Fisher and Brenda Dubin. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Leannarda of Lusby, MD and Amy J. Thayer of Lusby, MD, grandchildren, Marshall Thayer of Parsonfield, ME, Weston Thayer of Parsonfield, ME, Sara P. Meyer of Boston, MA, Lauren C. Lauver of Alexandria, VA, and Kristine Thayer of Easton, MD, as well as two great granddaughters. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
