Laurel A. Slebodnick, 85, a longtime resident of Collingdale, died peacefully Thursday afternoon at her daughter's home in Morton.
She grew up in Drums, and graduated from Hazleton High School in 1956. She married her late husband, Robert, in 1963, and moved to Collingdale a few years later. In her early years, Laurel earned her Bachelor of Nursing degree at Hazleton State Hospital, and worked at various hospitals until she settled into elder care at Little Flower Manor for many years.
She was a devoted wife of 52 years, and mother of three children, an avid hobbyist, enjoyed gardening, politics, finance and NASCAR. She was a generous person who loved animals. Laurel served for many years as the membership coordinator of the Collingdale Swim Club, and she enjoyed keeping up with town politics. She had a good sense of humor, and her family will dearly miss her.
Laurel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and daughter, Sherri Lee.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Anne-Mer), Arlington, Mass.; and Staci Evangelista (Dennis), Morton; nine grandchildren; and extended family.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, with Words of remembrance at 8 p.m. A second viewing will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 436 N. Oak Ave., Clifton Heights, with a service beginning at 10 a.m. followed by light refreshments.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Providence Animal Center, Media, or to your favorite charity.
