Laurel Ann "Lori" Smith

Laurel Ann Smith, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 62. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 29, 1962, she was the beloved daughter of the late John and Joyce Cote.

Laurel spent her career as a Casino Dealer at Motor City, where she brought smiles and laughter to colleagues and patrons alike. Her vibrant spirit and warm personality left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

A woman of many passions, Laurel delighted in bowling, playing bunko, and cherished her role as part of a proud military mom community. She found great joy and fulfillment in the time spent with her grandchildren, nurturing and supporting each of them with love and devotion. She was also a proud member of the Oakwood family community. She spent every chance she could enjoying her children, grandchildren, loved ones, sporting events, and activities.

Laurel is preceded in death by her parents, brother Ronald Cote, and grandparents. She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly: her children, Scotty (Shannon) Smith and Matthew (Teresa) Smith; her grandchildren, Scotty Ray Smith III, Talan Ray Holladay-Smith, Sophia Rose Smith, Lucas Matthew Smith, Vivian Ann Smith, and Andrew John Smith. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers Rusty Creel, George Cote, and Roger Cote; and her sisters Deborah Delagarza and Kimberly Brownell.

Laurel's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be cherished by her family and friends. May her memory continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
