I was fortunate to meet and know Laurel, even though it was only a few years...I felt blessed. How many wonderful things can I say about Laurel? She was so involved with so many things.
I first met Laurel when The White Barn gave me her card. She was to do my bridal make up. We became "instant friends." She and I were kindred spirits. Both of us empaths and pretty much thought the same about life in general. It was as if we had met years and years ago. She did a beautiful job with my make up and I felt beautiful for my wedding. I live in Anchorage, Alaska, over 3,000 miles away. We had to wait until we arrived in Kennebunkport before we could plan our wedding day. We did the arranging for bridal make-up, flowers, dining, and photos...we did it all in one day! We have now been married five happy years. We thank Laurel for making our day so lovely.
Laurel was like a diamond. She had so many facets to her. Let's start with her devotion to children with cancer. Laurel had fought the dread disease herself, since she was six years old. She fought hard. Her prolonged illnesses affected her heart as well. Laurel made sure that some children fighting to survive and loved rock music, received a guitar. This kind act of kindness made such a difference in those lives.
Laurel played guitar as well she wrote and sang some beautiful songs. Two of her best friends were known as the group "Heart." She adored them.
Laurel was also an advocate for animals. She fought to educate women about cruelty free make-up. She also stressed "anti-kill" shelters for unwanted animals. She felt all animals should have a right to a happy life. She loved animals. Her favorite little animal was her beloved Coco kitty.
Coco could not walk so Laurel had to love Coco even more. I think that the feeling was mutual.
Laurel was an actress. She was in many movies but the one where she kissed Al Pacino (Oceans) stands out, she also appeared in Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise.
Laurel was a Port City Model and loved her fellow models. She had so much fun with them. She had friends everywhere she went, east coast, west coast and in between with many friends on Facebook.
Laurel had an a glow about her. She was truly a beautiful woman. She was kind in spirit and had a pure heart and soul. She loved many people. Laurel wanted to be loved and to feel safe. Being so ill for so long was frightening for her. I think it was fear of the unknown. God knew Laurel was a "keeper" and he needed her in heaven. He felt that we had had her long enough. He was wrong, but after all he is God!
Even as Laurel fought her condition she had others in mind, she reminded us that if she were to pass away, she would watch over us from heaven. How unselfish and sweet, but that was how she thought.
She always put others first.
Laurel loved her family and many friends and we loved her. I felt so fortunate to be considered her friend. I love you Laurel and I will miss you.
Lastly, I ask you on Laurel's behalf, please don't wait to tell others how much you love and care for them. Life is short. Let them know and let it be often. May God bless and keep all of Laurel's family and friends.
Most sincerely,
DeLana Acton-Kretchik, Gary and Ned Kretchik

I have only known Laurel for a few short years. She and I became "almost instant" friends and kindred spirits. She was always so happy and strong. Even as she fought her illness she remained kind, encouraging and loving.
I loved everything about her. She was beautiful inside and out. Her soul was pure and she glowed with goodness and kindness. She was an advocate for many things. She loved animals and always promoted cruelty free products, and anti-kill shelters. Her pride and joy was Coco kitty. I think that the feeling was mutual between the two.
She shown and sparkled in several movies. She was gorgeous when she was posing as a Port City Model. She loved her modeling friends and had so much fun with them.
Who wouldn't love kissing Al Pacino in Oceans and being in Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise. She was captivating.
Laurel had hoped more than anything to be loved, and to feel safe and protected. Love came into and out of her life. She had a great capacity for love, she had a true and loving heart that she gave freely to all who knew her.
Living over 3,000 miles away from Kennebunkport made it difficult to see Laurel, as I live in Anchorage, Alaska.
Time and distance could never change the feelings that I had for her sweet soul. Beautiful as she was, she never let her beauty go to her head.
Laurel made many brides more beautiful on their wedding days. She was extremely talented. I was one of her clients. That was how we first met.
It was funny that she kept lowering her price for her services. I think she tried to lower it to almost nothing. My husband and I finally had to tell her that we were happy to pay the original quoted amount. She had bills to pay as well but that was just how she was ...loving and giving.
Laurel was good at many things. She loved music and singing. She was a devoted friend to her favorite musical group (Heart) she adored them and loved to be with her two gal pals. She had friends everywhere, east coast, west coast and via email.
Laurel had organizations to assist others in need, especially children dealing with cancer. Laurel knew first hand how debilitating it was, she had fought the disease off and on since she was six years old. Her poor heart was damaged from all of the repeated stress and illnesses. She tried ever so hard to fight to stay with us, but it wasn't meant to be. God needed her in heaven.
She knew how much she was loved and that is comforting. We always wish we had said more or done more when those we love pass away. We don't always get a second chance.
Lastly, one of the very last things she said and wanted us to know was that "if she passed away she wanted us to know that she would be watching over us." That was Laurel, always thinking of others even as she fought her illness.
Dear beautiful Laurel we will miss you, your love, your wit, your kindness and gentle nature. We grieve because we will miss you. It is almost like our favorite star in the sky faded, we can no longer see it, but it is there.
Thank you for your love and friendship over the years. My husband Gary Kretchik, son Ned Kretchik and I love you always and will miss you.
