Laurence Melvin Walker, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, surrounded by family and love.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by loyalty, hard work, and a love for his family. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served proudly for four years — and, as he liked to joke, “four years and eight days” before he turned 18. He shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Jean, who brought joy and celebration to every occasion. He adored her completely and missed her every single day.He cherished time with all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a few very special friends. He truly enjoyed racing motorcycles, competing in horse shows, owning and training trotters, betting on thoroughbreds, playing poker at the casino, and following and trading in the stock market. He also loved sporting events with his grandkids and great-grandkids, pool parties, holiday celebrations, country music, storytelling, exercise, and long walks.
Professionally, he was a skilled electronics technician, owning his own company specializing in two-way radio communication systems for many years and also working for a company repairing radios and towers. He stayed very “with it” for his age, embracing technology with curiosity — texting, social media, and all things modern.
He was known for his quick wit, sarcasm, and playful humor - wherever he was, he often had a funny comeback ready. He especially loved joking with his daughter-in-law, trading playful insults that left everyone laughing. His humor was a gift he shared generously, brightening every room he entered. Above all, he was a father and grandfather who truly showed up — dependable, proud, and deeply loving. The values he lived by, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will continue through those he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Walker. He is survived by 4 children, Deborah Allewalt (Bill Allewalt), Dawn Detamore (James Clark), Larry Walker (Drema Walker), Diana Weisman (Paul Weisman), 8 grandchildren: Craig, Shannon, Lisa, Crystal, Patrick, Jordan, Ryan, Taylor. 10 great-grand children: Tre, MaKenna, Ty, Rylan, Colton, Nicolas, Wyatt, Damian, Camila, and Luna, who will carry his memory forward with gratitude and love.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the friends who faithfully checked in, offering gentle love, support, and kindness.
A memorial gathering will be held at our Lansdowne location on Wednesday from 1pm - 3pm with a Celebration of Life beginning at 3pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Laurence's memory to the American Heart Association.
