Laurie received her nursing degree from James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, NC in 1965. She and Benny were married the same year on July 11. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Benjamin "Benny" Smith, Jr., their beloved cocker spaniel, "Trooper", and her parents, Lawrence R. and Ann T. Miller. Laurie is survived by her daughter, Leigh Smith Harris and husband, Robert of Dover; son, Ben Smith and wife, Christie of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jessica Grace Harris, Noah Robert Harris, Laurie Shiloh Harris, Anna Lee Smith Barnes and husband, Austin; Benjamin Smith, IV "B4" and fiance', Myra Skinner; two sisters, Snow Proctor (Richard) and Connie Jones (Keith); and her two cocker spaniel "babies" Sarge and Sheba.
