Laurie E Byrne, 66, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Laurie was born on January 9, 1959 in Syracuse to William and Mary Byrne, the seventh of their nine children. Laurie attended Roberts School and Bishop Ludden High School, graduating in 1977. She then studied at Trinity College in Burlington, VT and Onondaga Community College. After living for a time in Boston, Laurie worked at the Bon-Ton store in Shoppingtown and at Wegmans in Dewitt. She especially enjoyed her work at Provisions Bakery.
Residing in Syracuse throughout her life, Laurie was close to her large circle of family and friends. She was a reliable babysitter for many nieces and nephews, and loved her cat. All who knew Laurie describe her as being a very sweet person. She enjoyed many summers at the family camp in Pine Grove on Lake Ontario.
Laurie was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her brothers and sisters and their spouses: Joseph (Martha), William (Nancy), Daniel (Cristine), Stephen (Lisa), Barbara (William), Susan (Michael), Terry, and Thomas (Catherine), and a large number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
As Laurie’s health declined, she was assisted by AccessCNY and Loretto. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outstanding care that was provided to Laurie by these organizations. We would especially like to thank the management and staff at The Bernardine (a Loretto facility) where Laurie resided happily and comfortably for the past five years.
On Wednesday September 10th, a celebration of Laurie’s life and funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Church, 1340 Lancaster Ave., Syracuse. The family will greet friends at 10 AM, followed by the Mass at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Loretto Foundation, 700 E. Brighton Ave., Syracuse, NY 13025.
