March 14, 2022, suddenly after a stroke. She is survived by her husband, Dan Hoffend; children, Emily (Mike) Gunderson, Jenna Hoffend, Daniel Hoffend III; parents, Buzz (Arthur) and Nancy Deckman; brothers, Peter (Lisa) Deckman, Michael Deckman, Mark (Maureen) Deckman, Scott Deckman; numerous loving nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Polly Hoffend; brothers and sisters-in-law, Patti Hoffend, Craig (Marla) Hoffend, Eric (Gretchen) Hoffend. Predeceased by her father-in-law, Daniel Hoffend.
Laurie was a master chef, certified sommelier, athlete, gardener, and globetrotter, but of all her qualities, her ability to bond people together was unmatched. As a wife and mother of three, she built a beautiful family bonded by love, and that love was infectious. No person who remembers Laurie could say that she was not their friend, and she could not have it any other way.
Her smile had a sparkle that drew everyone in, and she smiled most when she was gathering people together - whether for a Michelin-grade meal with all the perfect touches, for a shopping excursion to find that just-right piece for that so-special occasion, or for a jog to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
She had a keen appreciation for all the beauties that life offers us, and made it her mission to ensure that everyone else enjoyed those beauties with her. We will always miss her beauty, and that sparkle of hers that we will always carry in our memories.
Friends may call Friday, March 18 from 5-8PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 19, 9AM at St. Louis Church, 64 South Main Street. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcome. Donations in Laurie's name can be made to Mercy Flight or the UR Neuromedicine Intensive Care Unit.
