Laurie Jasper 1966-2025
Laurie Jasper, age 59, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 19, 1966 in Portland, Maine to Errol and Donna Jasper. Laurie owned a small farmhouse in West Newfield, Maine where she cared for her two dogs, a horse and bunnies. She grew up in Windham, Maine and graduated from Windham High School in 1985. She was a talented athlete in numerous sports, starting with little league baseball followed by softball, basketball, track and cross country running. In 1980, Laurie qualified and participated in the National Cross-Country Junior Olympics held in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After High School, she completed SMCC's Horticulture Program and later attended the University of Bridgeport, Ct on a softball scholarship and studied photo-journalism. Throughout her life, she enjoyed running road races including the Beach to Beacon in Cape Elizabeth.
Laurie loved traveling and her work as a CAD Drafter for an engineering firm gave her opportunities to visit many places from Florida and California to Hawaii and Japan. In her younger years she ventured to the Virgin Islands and worked as a gardener on St. John Island while living on her sailboat. She loved nature and animals, especially her dogs Emma and Ella along with her horse Dancer. Her most recent hobby was refurbishing an old sailboat. She was always ready to take on a new challenge and the next adventure!
Her other passion was reading and writing, here are her thoughts on enlightenment:
Enlightenment is perhaps not in the all-knowing of things
But perhaps in the appreciation of all people, places and things-
Just as is
In the ability to accept and forgive yourself and others
And always hold love in your heart for each
Perhaps knowing those things and living in this way is enlightenment
Is enough
She is survived by her parents Errol and Donna Jasper, sister Susan Jasper and her partner Diane Day, brother James Jasper and his wife Samantha, nephews Graham and Parker along with several cousins. On November 15th at 1:00pm, family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, to honor the life of Laurie, at Windham Hill Cemetery next to the Church on Windham Center Road. Reception at Fellowship Hall after.
In lieu of flowers, donations towards a Gosnell Hospice House memorial brick in memory of Laurie can be sent to Donna Jasper.
