Laurie D. (Embree) Murphy, 61, of Oxford, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer. She will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Laurie was born February 7, 1964, in Washington, the daughter of Gary R. and Lillian (Holderness) Embree. She graduated from West High School in Iowa City and attained a Medical Assistant associate degree from Kirkwood Community College. Laurie worked in central sterilization at the University of Iowa. On August 6, 2010, she was united in marriage to Daniel Murphy. Danny passed away in August of 2023. Laurie enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially benefit rides. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and going to the Riverside Casino. Laurie was a very generous person, always ready to give to anyone.
Survivors include two children: Christopher (Alisha) Buck and Samantha (Matthew) Whitney; five grandchildren: Jaxon, Remy, Timothy, Choe, and Lilly; one brother, Brian (Balbina) Embree; and her significant other, John Greenwood.
Preceding Laurie in death were her parents, one brother, Terry Embree, and her husband, Daniel.
