Thibadeau Mortuary Service, P.A.Laurie J. Olson, 69, of Gaithersburg, MD, passed away on November 22, 2025, at Shady Grove Medical Center. Laurie was the beloved wife and best friend of Bob Olson for 45 wonderful years.
Laurie was born in Sterling, Illinois, to William and Mary Hollingsworth. She grew up with her siblings Lee, Glenda, and Billie. Her family moved to Corpus Christi Texas during her Junior High years and Versailles Missouri for High School where she quickly made many friends and was voted her high school homecoming queen. She attended Southwest Missouri State University where she was the president of her church's college youth group and met her future husband.
Laurie earned her nursing degree from Ozark Community College in 1982 and worked as a nurse for several years. But her greatest joy was being a mom to Angela and Mark. She poured her heart into raising them and stayed home while they were young to give them the best start in life. Later, when her kids were older, Laurie found another calling as a reading specialist in elementary school libraries in Kansas and Maryland. She had a gift for making children feel seen and loved, and she shared her passion for books with everyone she met.
Laurie adored her family, cherished her friends, and rarely met a book she didn’t want to read. She enjoyed the elegance of high tea at The Willard with her husband just as much as the silly knock knock jokes her grandsons told her.
She had a generous spirit and a heart full of kindness. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion and love, and she prioritized friendships with people near and far. Laurie will be remembered for the countless special connections she made and the way she made everyone feel like family.
She is survived by her husband Bob, their children Angela and Mark, her son-in law Jared, her grandsons Ethan and Cole, her sister Billie, and her nieces and nephews Tony and Chris, Matt and Meghan, Andy, and Logan, all of whom she loved dearly.
Though Laurie is no longer with us, her love and kindness live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. May we find comfort in the memories we share and carry her spirit forward in the way we love and care for others.
Please join the family at the Memorial Mass on Friday, December 5, 2025, 11:00 am at St Mark's Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Rd, Vienna, VA 22181.
