Laurie Sullivan Settle

Laurie Sullivan Settle, 61 went to Heaven on December 12, 2025, to be with Jesus, her personal Savior. She fought pancreatic cancer for over five years.

Laurie was born in Fredericksburg and was raised in Stafford and King George counties. She graduated from King George High School, received her Bachelor of Arts from Mary Washington College, her Masters in Church Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and her Masters in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

She served as Minister of Music for a church in Kentucky and also one here in Virginia before she felt called to teach full-time, where she hoped she could touch many lives. She taught at Quantico Middle High School for 30 ½ years as a band director, also teaching Chorus after school. She loved her job and loved her children. Laurie was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School and worked with the Christmas Shoebox Ministry with Samaritan's Purse. She also served with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association on the 24/7 Prayer Line.

She is survived by the love of her life, Thomas Settle, Sr.; two brothers, Ross (Melissa) Sullivan and Mark (Janice) Sullivan; step-children, Melissa (Wes) Stanley and T.J. (Stephanie) Settle; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; many special long-time friends and many newer ones. She also leaves behind three precious furry friends: Pooh, Flo, and Felix.

Laurie was predeceased by her loving parents, Eugene H. and Wilma C. Sullivan. She loved to cook, to garden, to can jellies and her family's recipe of green tomato relish. She loved taking pictures and spending all the time she could with her beloved Tommy, family, and friends.

A service will be held on Thursday, December 18, at 11 a.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. After the graveside service, a reception will be held at Round Hill Baptist Church, 16519 Round Hill Road, King George, VA 22485.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Round Hill Baptist Church, Samaritan's Purse, or the ASPCA.
