Laurinda Sylvia

Laurinda (Caiado) Sylvia passed on January 1, 2026 in New Bedford, MA at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John Sylvia Jr.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on February 4, 1931, daughter of the late Casimiro and Adeline (Pedro) Caiado, she was a lifelong resident of New Bedford graduating from New Bedford High School.

For the majority of her life, she lived in the South End. She worked for many years at Teledyne Rodney Metals.

Laurinda, 'Larrie' to her friends, was a woman of strong faith. She enjoyed reading, nature, time with family and friends and dinners at Fay's Restaurant. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Residence of Cedar Dell, Dartmouth, MA for their compassionate care over the past 10 months.

She leaves behind two daughters, Deborah Charwick and her husband Bruce and Lynne Sylvia and her husband John Reynolds, along with three grandchildren, Jonathan Charwick and his wife Sharon, Sarah Gibbons and her husband Matthew and Mary Katherine Stevens and her husband Henry and six great-grandchildren, Brielle, Daniel, Harper, Caleb, Rorey, and Erin.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 5th at 1:30 PM in St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 136 Rivet Street, New Bedford MA 02744. Her family will receive guests in church from 1-1:30 PM prior to her service.
