Lavera Stokes ("Grandma"), 85, of Ridge Manor, Florida, passed away on Saturday, January 24 in Ridge Manor, Florida.
Born on August 16, 1940, in Lacoochee, Florida, Lavera was the daughter of Willard and Edna Mercer, both of whom preceded her in death. She spent much of her life in Lacoochee and later Ridge Manor, places she proudly called home.
Lavera retired after 32 years of dedicated service as a Pasco County school bus driver, a job she took great pride in and through which she touched the lives of countless children and families.
She was a happy-go-lucky soul who found joy in crafting, beadwork, and ceramics. Above all, Lavera cherished her family and took pride in raising her two sons and helping nurture many nieces and nephews throughout her life.
She is survived by her children Bruce Lee (Regina) and Bryan Schoolcraft; grandchildren Erika Schoolcraft, Jeremy Schoolcraft; great-grandchild Gunner Schoolcraft. She is also survived by her brothers James and Randall, along with many extended family members and friends. Throughout her life, Lavera had an inseperable bond with her sister Shelbert, and she also had a lifelong bond with her bestfriend Shirley Marcee
She was preceded in death by her grandson Evan Lee, and her sister Shelbert
Lavera also leaves behind her beloved pet, Minnie, her faithful companion and constant shadow.
Services will be held on February 2nd at the First Baptist Church of Lacoochee. Visitation to begin at 11 AM with a service to begin at 12 PM, with interment to follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Hodges Family Funeral Home.
