LaVern Leo Scholl was born June 8, 1943, in Petersburg, NE, to Leonard and Cecelia (Veik) Scholl. LaVern grew up on a farm near Petersburg and graduated from St. John's High School in Petersburg in 1961.

After high school, LaVern served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. During and following his military service, he operated a family farm south of Tilden, NE, where he raised pure-bred Duroc hogs. In 2007, he and Dianne bought the farm near Petersburg that originally belonged to his grandparents, Henry and Mary Scholl. He continued farming corn and soybeans until his retirement in January 2024.

LaVern married Dianne Seier on April 12, 1969, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. Together, they raised two children and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

LaVern was very involved spiritually and professionally in his community. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Tilden, where he served on the Parish Council and as Ecumenical Minister for several years. He also belonged to St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville. He dedicated his time as a 4-H leader and as a member of the Rae Valley Heritage Association, the Knights of Columbus in Elgin, and the Antelope County Pork Producers. Additionally, he served on the Antelope County Planning and Zoning Committee. He was recognized for his achievements in pork production, particularly as one of a select number of breeders who sold hogs to a firm in Sucre, Bolivia.

LaVern cherished time with his family, sharing funny memories, playing cards, and making others laugh. He enjoyed day trips to area casinos with Dianne, getting together with his siblings and cousins, supporting his children's school activities, watching professional wrestling, and cheering on Nebraska volleyball and football.

LaVern is survived by his wife: Dianne Scholl of Petersburg, NE; two children: Juliann Scholl and Jerel Scholl both of Petersburg, NE; four siblings: Cletus (Carol) Scholl of Columbus, NE; Waldean (Karen) of Petersburg, NE; Mary (Michael) Meuret of Norfolk, NE; and Kathleen (Scott) Jackson of Columbus, NE; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; step-mother: Katherine Kelly Scholl; and sisters: Sharon Scholl and Lenore Scholl.
