Laverne E. Boggs Myers of Lake Leon passed away 10/8/22 from a long illness. Laverne was born on June 17, 1939 in Breckenridge, Texas to Sam and Albena Boggs. She grew up in the Breckenridge area and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1957. She continued her education at Tarleton (Junior) College on a scholarship. It didn't take her long in Stephenville to meet the love of her life, William (Bill) Myers. They eloped in July of 1958 and headed to Lubbock for summer school, but they didn't stay there long. They went back to Tarleton in the fall to try school again, but they realized Bill had other interests, so they left Stephenville. They lived in multiple places in their 64 years of married life and Laverne worked many different jobs, mostly as a bookkeeper, but she also ran cabins and helped run several businesses they owned and she even made some extra money selling her pies to local restaurants for a short time. But the job she was the best at was mother and grandmother. She had two children, William Thomas (Tom) Myers, III and Vicki J. Myers (Webb) and she made sure she was always available for them even after they were grown. Her family was the most important thing to her and she always made you feel special. Even after they were teenagers, her grandkids wanted to go to Gramma and Grampa's house where they knew they would be entertained and well fed. When life got hard, she kept a brave face and showed her family how to overcome tragedy with poise and grace. She was one of the smartest, bravest women they ever knew and having Gramma mad at you was something to be avoided at all costs. Hours and hours were spent playing games with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids where laughter abounded. Each Christmas she would make cut out sugar cookies and decorate them beautifully while announcing to all that this was the last year and someone else was going to have to do it from now on. She would make special treats of bite size cheesecakes, fresh hot cookies or beef jerky and she was always working on new recipes. Even as her time here on earth was closing and she was weak and ill, her sense of humor still flourished and her love for her family and her selflessness showed through. She wanted to make sure all were well fed and taken care of regardless of her physical condition, so she ordered Bill to get everyone something to drink or some food. She didn't criticize, even if your pie crust wasn't as pretty as hers. She made you feel important and loved, always loved.
Laverne is survived by her husband Bill Myers of Lake Leon, Texas, her children Vicki & Gail Webb of Granbury, Texas, her grandchildren Ben & Christina Webb of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Alicia & Josh Rutherford of Beaumont, Texas and five great grandchildren Calianna, Benton, Baylor, Cannon & Malachi. She is also survived by her siblings Shirley Mantooth of Abilene, Texas, Rex & Connie Boggs of Eastland, Texas and Lonnie Messenger of Abilene, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Tom Myers, her parents Sam Boggs and Albena White, her brother Carol Boggs, her sister Brenda Messenger, four nephews Mike Hallum, James Boggs, Grady Boggs and Lonnie Messenger Jr. The family asks that donations be made to St. Jude in lieu of flowers. The family also wants to thank Alpha Omega Hospice and especially Jennie Ainsworth for her loving care.
