Laverne Funderburg

Laverne Ricks Funderburg, 78, of Hernando MS passed away at her home on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Laverne had a love for music and as a young adult shared her passion leading a youth choir at Elliott Baptist Church for several years.

Laverne worked for over 33 years at the Mississippi Forestry Commission in Elliott where she retired from after years of dedicated service.

In her later years, she loved being able to spend more time with her family, especially her grandson. She is preceded in death by her father, Glenn Ricks, mother, Stella Ricks, brother, Keith Ricks, and sister, Carol Lewis. She is survived by her husband of 58 years David, daughter Amy Iverson (Jeremy), grandson Conner and brother Bobby Ricks (Brenda).

Visitation will be held at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:00 am followed by the service in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am. Services will be officiated by Bro. Larry Brinker and Bro. Michael Payton. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Grenada, Mississippi.

Pallbearers will be Robin Clifton, Lee Fields, Mark Harville, Craig Morgan, Charles Norris and Mike Woods.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Elliott Baptist Church parking lot resurfacing project.
