LaVerne was born September 12, 1934, in Indianapolis, to her parents, the late Noble and Esther (Montgomery) Grider. Shortly after graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School in Indianapolis, she married the love of her life, Kenneth "Kenny" L. Summers on June 8, 1952 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on September 17, 2010 after 58 loving years of marriage.
LaVerne was a talented florist and was the owner/operator of Blooming Boutique in Centerton and Valley Mills. She had also worked for a florist in Linton and was also a Gatekeeper at Shakamak State Park in Jasonville.
LaVerne enjoyed gardening, reading mystery novels and collecting southwestern items. Most of all she loved taking care of her dog, Baxter and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Laverne will be missed by her children: Richard (Linda) Summers of Plainfield, Kathy (Bernie) Auberry of Trafalgar, Cynthia (Dan) Nickleson of Jasonville and Lori (Ken) Lader of Mooresville; grandchildren; Keith (Terri) Summers of Plainfield, Kelly (Tony) Meiring of Greencastle, Stacie (Max) Austin of Jasonville, Kevin (Tanya) Sullivan of Linton, Eddie (Shannon) Pena of Jasonville, Kendra (Dave) Hanna of Hobe Sound, FL, Kassidy Auberry of Trafalgar, Cheryl (Jordan Piper) DuBois and Rachel DuBois both of Indianapolis; and 23 great grandchildren.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenny; grandchildren, Kenneth "Ken" Summers and Shad Auberry; and sister: Eleanor Berniece Heirstand.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of LaVerne can be sent to any Native Indian Charity.
